HELLO!
Hello, and welcome to my blog! My name is Allison Boyes, and I am a licensed architect in Ontario, Canada with over a decade of experience in designing and executing residential projects. I am the founder and principal of INHABIT STUDIO INC., a boutique architecture firm that specializes in creating custom homes that reflect the personality, lifestyle, and needs of my clients. Whether you are looking for a simple renovation, a thoughtfully designed modern home, or an efficient garden suite, I can help you turn your dream home into a reality.
My passion for architecture started when I was a small child, playing with my doll houses more than my dolls. I loved to imagine different layouts, styles, and colors for each space, and how they would affect the mood and comfort of the inhabitants. I knew with full confidence that I wanted to be an architect in sixth grade, when my teacher tasked us to design a home with a specific set of requirements on a firm budget. Each square on the graph paper was worth a set dollar amount - and we could layout whatever we wanted, as long as it met the requirements. I was hooked and spent the next several years designing and drafting house plans on graph paper.
I never waivered from this career path, and in 2006, I obtained my Bachelor of Architectural Studies from the University of Waterloo School of Architecture, where I participated in the renowned coop program and gained valuable exposure to the industry. I spent a couple years working in the industry and then I continued my education at the University of Waterloo and earned my Master of Architecture degree in 2010. After graduating, I went on to work in a large firm on notable projects in the province, until 2012, when I decided to pursue my interest in residential architecture. For the next seven years, I worked at Kyra Clarkson Architect, where I was involved in designing and managing custom modern infill homes for clients as well as spec homes for MODERNest. I worked closely with the contractors, engineers, and city officials to ensure the quality and compliance of each project. Through this experiences, I gained valuable skills and knowledge in niche.
As an architect, I have always been fascinated by the idea of creating spaces that can shape people's lives and experiences. I believe that everyone deserves to have a home that reflects their personality, values, and aspirations. That is why I am passionate about bringing people's dream of their forever home to life. As a mother of two, I also understand the importance of family life and all that it comes with. I know how to design homes that are functional, safe, and adaptable for different stages and needs of the family. I also know how to create spaces that foster communication, connection, and harmony among the family members. I believe that a home is not just a physical structure, but a place where memories are made and shared. My approach to architecture is based on three principles: functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability. I believe that a good design should not only meet the practical requirements of the occupants, but also enhance their well-being and comfort. I also strive to create beautiful and elegant spaces that harmonize with the surrounding environment and express the unique identity of the owners. Finally, I am committed to using environmentally friendly materials and techniques that minimize the impact of the construction and operation of the building on the planet.
I truly enjoy working with my clients and making their dreams a reality. I listen to their needs, preferences, and vision, and I translate them into a design that is functional, sustainable, and beautiful. I collaborate with them throughout the process, from the initial sketches to the final touches, to ensure that they are satisfied with the outcome. I also respect their budget, timeline, and site constraints, and I find creative solutions to overcome any challenges. I take pride in seeing my clients happy and comfortable in their new homes. I feel honoured to be part of their journey and to contribute to their well-being. I love what I do, and I hope to continue creating homes that inspire and delight people for years to come.
